Seltsame Tage – Arno Schmidt und Darmstadt 1955–1958 - Exhibition
"Seltsame Tage" - the exhibition title, named after one of the stories written in Darmstadt by the important post-war author Arno Schmidt. The author was to be brought back to Darmstadt with various exhibitions and readings, a variety of themed workshops and lectures, shop windows distributed throughout the Darmstadt city, various materials reminiscent of the 1950s and a catalogue consisting of a grey cardboard box filled with 10 booklets and exactly 35 postcards. An exhibition that served exactly its purpose: Arno Schmidt to bring his works and thoughts closer to the Darmstadt public in various forms.
During the exhibition weeks, the SchauRaum served as a satellite to the main exhibition in Hall 2, where it was necessary to approach Arno Schmidt and his works in a variety of ways on a weekly basis. In lectures, readings and workshops, various artists, authors, scientists and photographers dealt with the author, exploring various aspects of his life and placing him in new contexts as well as in connection with their own works.
